Lt. (j.g.) Richard Hayes MIA in Pacific Theater

Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard Thomas Hayes, was killed in action April 27, 1945. He is survived by his wife Margaret Flewellyn Hayes of 176 Washington Ave.

He was awarded the Air Medal with Gold Star.

Lt. Hayes joined the United States Naval Reserve from Ohio. His service number is 0-176597.

He is listed as missing in action or buried at sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The intersection of Washington Avenue and Little Street was dedicated Richard Hayes Way in a ceremony held May 28, 2016.


Belleville Street Sign Memorials

In June 2016, Belleville Township Council passed a resolution to dedicate certain streets in town to servicemen who hailed from the municipality.
