(May 31, 1945) -- Cpl. Stanley Guzik was killed in action in the Philippines.

He had been overseas 14 months, and had received a Purple Heart at Guam.

Guzik had lived with his sister Mrs. Albert Miskiewicz of Cortlandt Street. His other family members live in Wilkes Barre, Pa.

Cpl. Guzik was repatriated and interred in Saint Mary's Church of the Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming, Luzerne County, Pa., USA


SGT. GUZIK'S BODY ARRIVES TOMORROW

The body of Sgt. Stanley J. Guzik who died April 18, 1945, of wounds received in action on Ie Shima, off Okinawa, will arrive at the Lehigh Valley railroad station tomorrow afternoon at 12:35. Details from Wilkes-Barre Township Posts of the American Legion and Catholic War Veterans will meet the body and escort it to the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Guzik, 417 Francis street, Stanton Hill, Wilkes-Barre Township.

The funeral will take place from the home Saturday morning at 9 with a requiem mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Church, Park avenue. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Wyoming.

Sgt. Guzik served in the Regular Army from 1930 to 1936 and re-entered service from March 1942. Wounded on Guam in August, 1944, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon recovering, he rejoined his outfit, the 77th Division, 307th Infantry Regiment, for the fighting on Ie Shima.

Surviving besides his mother are a brother and five sisters: Peter and Mrs. Helen Ziomek, Mrs. Catherine Kowalksi, Mrs. Sophie Ambrose, and Mrs. Anna Krysicki, all of Wilkes-Barre, and Mrs. Johanna Miskiewicz, Belleville, NJ. A brother, Joseph, died April 14, 1947.
