Sgt. Charles Marsh

(July 31, 1958) -- A military funeral was held on Monday for Staff Sgt. Charles A. Marsh, 45, of Belleville, a former Nutley resident, who died last Wednesday of injuries suffered two days earlier in a highway accident in Burlington, Vt.

Sgt. Marsh was attached to the Ethan Allen Air Force Base in Burlington.

An Air Force veteran with 16 years service, Sgt. Marsh suffered a fractured skull and multiple injuries when the car in which he was a passenger plunged off the road in South Burlington.

Sgt. Marsh was born in Nutley and attended Nutley schools. He entered the service from Nutley in March 1942. He was a flight engineer and his service included duty in the Burma - China - India theatre in World War II and the Korean War.

Sgt. Marsh held the Air Medal with Cluster, the Korean Service Medal and a Silver Medallion from the Costa Rica minister of Health for his part in rushing medical supplies to the country during a yellow fever epidemic.

Sgt. Marsh was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He leaves his mother, now of Belleville, and his two sisters, Mrs. Howard L. Montgomery of Edgar Place, and Mrs. Archibald M. Stone of Chestnut Street.
