d. November 5, 1831

American General, Revolutionary War.

A hero of the Battle of Saratoga, Van Courtlandt served in Poor's Brigade as Colonel of the 2nd and Lieutenant Colonel of the 4th New York Regiments.

He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1783.

The son of Pierre Van Courtlandt of Courtlandt Manor in New York, and the husband of Catherine Ogden, whom he wed in 1762.

The long-lived officer's name was inadvertently omitted from the church plaque honoring the Revolutionary War veterans interred in Belleville's Dutch Reformed Church Yard because he did not serve in a local regiment .
