Philip Van Cortlandt
Birth: Unknown American General, Revolutionary War. A hero of the Battle of Saratoga, Van Cortlandt served in Poor's Brigade as Colonel of the 2nd and Lieutenant Colonel of the 4th New York Regiments. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1783. The son of Pierre Van Courtlandt of Courtlandt Manor in New York, and the husband of Catherine Ogden, whom he wed in 1762.
